Current Positions Available: Child and Family Counsellor (Relief) (Click Here to see Details) CHILD AND FAMILY COUNSELLOR - Relief Position Summary The Child and Family Counsellor is directly accountable to the Program Coordinator. In a teamwork environment, the Child and Family Counsellor is responsible for delivering clinical services to children/youth and family using group work as the basic modality, augment by individual and family intervention applied in an atmosphere that is conducive to treatment and based on therapeutically sound principles. Typical Duties and Responsibilities 1 Planning and provision of the treatment program: 1.1 Assist in the planning, implementing and evaluating therapeutic group programming. 1.2 Communicating regularly with the multi-disciplinary team members, child/youth, and family to provide feedback on the client’s progress in the program. 1.3 To ensure a safe, predictable environment for the child/youth, a consistent approach is followed by all staff to the program structure, routines and behavioral expectations. 1.4 Providing social skill development training to enable the child/youth to acquire the skills necessary for survival in his/her natural environment. 1.5 Provide parent training and support groups to the parent whose children are participating in the program. 1.6 Assist in other duties to ensure the smooth operation of the program including: Researching for new program material and purchasing of program supplies Grocery shopping and meal planning Transporting of children/youth into the community in the Centre’s vehicle 2. Maintain and keep clinical records current in accordance with Centre’s guideline and policies 3. Participates in the relevant in-service training, conferences, courses, seminars, conventions, and workshops to keep updated on best practices. 4. Participates in the setting and implementation of both organizational and individual goals and objectives. 5. Assist with operation and maintenance of the centre through the following activities: Housekeeping tasks Opening and securing building Completion of health and safety checks Participation in annual meetings, open house, agency tours, external speaking engagements/information sessions Other duties as assigned Health & Safety: Maintains a safe and orderly work environment; works in a safe manner; reports unsafe situations and conditions to immediate supervisor. Qualifications Social Service or Child Care Diploma, Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts with other significant qualifications/experience. Clinical experience in child, adolescent and/or family treatment programs. Strong communication and organizational skills Class F motor vehicle license and motor vehicle insurance in Ontario is an asset Experience in Microsoft Office is an asset |
