Intensive Half Day Program Focus: The program's focus is to develop social and learning skills that will enable them to maintain their school placement.
Program Description: This Program works with children who have severe social/emotional issues and are struggling to stay in school. These children often fall into the high risk category of being removed from school placements and often experience multiple social, emotional and behavioural issues. A typical profile of these children include: often have few effective social skills, learning issues as a result of behavioural and/or learning disabilities, difficulty talking about feelings and parents and teachers often struggle with day to day management of their behaviour. The program works in conjunction with special education staff and individual classroom teachers. The group operates with a maximum of 6 children.
The program uses the child’s strengths to build the necessary skills to be more successful in the school environment. The children learn from each other and the therapeutic curriculum. Parents and teachers are a vital part of the programming as well as providing the support needed to help the child use the new skills outside the treatment setting. Parents are provided with ongoing supports and interventions through family meetings and planning meetings to address the needs of their child.
