Sharing our success Ep# 1 November 2017

Megan’s Story

Megan is a 10 year old girl who completed two sessions with the after school Burlington Girls Group. Megan has been diagnosed with a learning disability and as a result struggled to make friends. Megan also struggled with a low self-esteem and negative self-talk. Megan and her family moved to Canada from South America in 2011. In the beginning of group, she was very shy and had a hard time opening up to the leaders and other kids in the group.

Throughout the two sessions Megan was able to open up to others, make friendships and develop a positive sense of self. During group Megan always loved to bring in yarn to group and share her finger knitting creations with her peers. She often would make some for her friends and was always making birthday cards and special drawings for others. Megan’s parents said that she has come a long way since starting group.
